Charter in Antarctica

Ia Anctartica on your bucket list ?  Your daily life is as distant as can be when you listen to the bray of penguins or the exhalation  of humpback whales.  Antarctica is a remote, untamed wilderness and a continent without a native population due to the cold.

Not many small yachts are licensed for charter in Antarctica but we have an exciting exploration sailing journey lined up.
Alternatively, you can invite your friends onboard the classic and elegant Sherakhan where you can also  book 1 of her 13 cabins to explore the world’s most  pristine environment. Then there are the bigger ships and special explorer trips organised by the likes of National Geographic.

On all the charters we offer there are experienced wildlife and marine guides on board.  Your time “off ship” is spent exploring icebergs and wildlife from a zodiac or kayaking or  snow shoe-ing on ice or even camping in some cases.
Shorter trips start  with flying from  Punta Arenas to King George Island , avoiding  the Drake passage , to spend more time in Antarctica.

January to March: Best time to explore Antarctica

Wildlife is great in February:  it’s the peak time for whale activity and sightings,

penguins are still plentiful and active at this time with the chicks moulting

and running around on shore  while the adults are usually swimming for food,

and seals are abundant.

The main difference is that there is less daylight later into February.

For example, on February 1st, sunrise is approximately 4:35am and sunset

approximately 10:20pm. On March 1st, sunrise is approximately 6:15am and sunset approximately 8:40pm. This makes for incredible sunsets and sunrises that linger over the horizon for hours and beautiful photos.

All charter yachts operate on a per cabin basis and are equipped  with excellent crew, personal polar outfits for each guest, water toys such as big ribs and sometimes kayaks and skis for your exciting landings.

A typical journey would last at least 10 days (one always must allow for change of itinerary due to weather circumstances). Some charters  skip the rough waters of the Drake passage by including a flight from Punta Arenas to King George island. Depending on weather conditions  you may for example visit the south Shetland islands, Deception island , the Weddell sea and the  Gerlache strait.
